It’s not every day you get to review a band with a name like Anal Vomit. As the old adage suggests, there’s a lot in a name. This is ugly, sickening and heavy headbanging death metal that is reminiscent of other South American band such as Vulcano and Sarcofago, also showing the hallmarks of Sodom’s early blackened thrash influence. In the tradition of the aforementioned bands, a slick production is not what this music has, nor calls for. This album sounds every bit like one that would have been released in the early 90s. The faster songs such as ‘Obsessive Sexual Slaughter’ are carried by a furious drumming style that adds much needed power to what are often pedestrian but passable riffs. The vocals are also very standard of the South American extreme metal scene. There’s nothing spectacular happening at any point on this record, but what is easy to hear is an element of honesty in the songwriting; Anal Vomit don’t profess to be reinventing the genre here. This record will appeal to those who revel in the South American tradition of metal, but to everyone else this will be a middle of the road album that will not call for too much attention, save for a courtesy spin every now and then.
